Calcifediol is a vitamin D3, a fat soluble sterol, sometimes considered to be hormone or hormone precursor. Calcifediol is involved in promoting normal bone development in body by regulating calcium, phosphorus and minerals. Vitamin D is a secosteroid and sometimes popularly known as the 'sunshine vitamin' because formed in the skin from 7-dehydrocholesterol under the influence of ultraviolet irradiation. Calcifediol is also found in certain foods. Fish liver oils especially code liver oil are good sources of vitamin D.Calcifediol is used topically as a teratment of psoriasis

Indications
Calcifediol is primarily indicated in conditions like Cholestasis, Hyperparathyroidism, Hypoparathyroidism, Malabsorption, Nephrotic syndrome, Nutritional osteomalacia, Renal failure, Short bowel syndrome, Vitamin D deficiency rickets, Vitamin D-resistant rickets.
Contraindications
Calcifediol is contraindicated in conditions like Hypercalcaemia, Granulomatous disease.

Side Effects
Calcifediol in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Urinary stone formation .
Calcifediol produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Hypercalcemia, Hyperphosphatemia, Hypermagnesemia, Calcification in arteries & soft tissues . Careful monitoring is needed with proper medical management.
The signs and symptoms that are produced after acute overdosage of Calcifediol are Hypercalcemia.
Calcifediol is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Abdominal pain, Anorexia , Apathy, Cardiac arrhythmias , Dehydration , Headache, Nausea, Polyuria, Somnoparalytic ileus, Thirst, Vomiting , Weakness.
