Indications

Somatostatin is primarily indicated in conditions like Adjunct in ganciclovir treatment, Oesophageal varices bleeding.

Contraindications

Somatostatin is contraindicated in conditions like Pregnancy, Lactation, Hypersensitivity to any component of product.

Side Effects

Somatostatin in overdosage may give rise to further complications which include Extra systoles , Thrombocytopenia .

The signs and symptoms that are produced after acute overdosage of Somatostatin are Transient bradycardia, Cramping.

Somatostatin is known to cause more or less tolerable side effects which are usually transient. These include Headache, Hypocalcemia, Hypoglycemia, Nausea and vomiting, Pyrexia .

Warnings / Precautions

Blood sugar should be monitored since somatotropin may interfere with carbohydrate metabolism. Concomitant parental nutrition has been suggested because of the inhibitory effect on intestinal absorption.
