Chronic granulomatonus disease
A congenital defect in the killing of phagocytosed bacteria by polymorphonuclear leukocytes, which cannot increase their oxygen metabolism either because of defective cytochrome or other effective factor deficiencies. as a result modified macrophages collect surrounded by a rim of lymphocytes, often with multinucleated giant cells and thus form a granuloma as a result there is an increased susceptibility to severe infection.
